Tiffany Joy Butler (BFA 2010) will discuss her career and practice. Butler’s talk will center on the idealistic expectations of academia, cinema and activism. How do we reach stability and sustainability in our lives and environment while juggling student loan payments, microaggressions, separation anxiety, chronic illness, laborious jobs, unpaid taxes, acquaintances/relationships, the deaths of loved ones … then make art and fight for a more just community? Butler will briefly discuss this question based on her experiences in film, art and activist spaces. Audience questions are welcomed. Butler’s talk is sponsored by the division of Foundations, Art Force 5, the Career Development Center, and the Institute for Cultural Unity’s “What About Wednesdays?” program.
