Artist Statement
The pageant of life is composed of narratives from which metaphoric gestures and archetypal symbols can be drawn. Lodged within these narratives are conversations that have long passed, a perception of the world drawn through moments in time, and a sense that memory conjures a tenuous continuity.
My work inhabits that terrain which lies between objective, factual information; and the emotional language of memory, and sensory association. I view art making as a lens through which a perception of the world can be constructed, an intertwining of the familiar and the strange that eludes a simple reckoning.
Over the past eight years I have been working in the form of installation. The creation of an environment populated with multiple objects, images and texts is something that I have gravitated towards because I am concerned with encouraging my audience to physically immerse themselves in the work. The installations are comprised of various objects and images that are metaphoric manifestations of seminal events in my life.
My work is the site of connection between the world and myself where I investigate the evolving nature of common human experience through the lens of personal history.
