Artist's Statement
Home Topographies - Every experience is a collection of moments, shaped and contextualized by the identity of the individual, affected by their past and affecting the next moment in time. As a place/location becomes a part of our lives it embeds itself in our memories, both as a visual backdrop and a physical context. This process poses the questions; how are our physical memories of a place translated by experience and likewise how does a given setting shape the experiences that happen there? Through the acquisition of topography I seek to understand the physical structure of a location and through its rendition articulate a notion of my experience. With allusions to body and architecture these works capture various moments of place and identity, formed by history and experience, and determining response, interaction, and the personality of geographic memory.
