Our painting program provides a balance between structured learning experiences and each students unique expression.
The rich history of painting is the foundation from which students build their painting language, and contemporary art is the context in which they develop an artistic identity.
Working in traditional and experimental
media throughout the program, students are exposed
to paintings and readings from a wide range
of sources in and outside of the classroom.
From the Sophomore year on, each
student is given a dedicated studio space in
which to work. Sophomores encounter the basic
elements of painting and investigate observed
and imagined subject matter. Junior courses
address a wide range of contemporary issues
that expand upon the student's notion of painting.
Through extensive contact with the faculty,
seniors explore personal interests and develop
an individual body of work culminating in the
Senior show.
